Reflections on reading and writing
Writing the thesis for Project Two was more difficult; I continually restated the prompt rather than writing an answer to an argument. When it comes to generating a thesis, I try to do this before starting the paper. Reading comprehension strategies that I have created during Honors that I expect to use in the future include highlighting and annotating every text to keep my mind on the topic, researching background information, search for things that I do not understand, and not procrastinating the reading assignment.
I love it and have found it to be tremendously beneficial to my spiritual life. So if you feel that you do not have time to read, why not keep a book in the bathroom and commit to reading it there? More often than not I am glad to receive these emails and to respond to them.
Note on reading and writing skills
It was a time to be completely creative and find a voice within the classroom. I have never felt as confident about these skills until completion of this course. I also tend to jot short notes and questions in the margins or at the end of chapters. With procrastinating, reading or writing, it is inevitable to feel stressed and under pressure and it will be harder to produce the quality work desired. I begin by giving the book a quick scan, hoping to understand what it is about, what the author is going to attempt to prove and how he is going to set about this task. I have noticed these improvements several times as I have written assignments for other classes, as well as reading in general.
Also, another thing I learned early on is that I can basically write forever J Overall, I am very passionate about literacy, both reading and writing. We also look at cumulative data to see where the students are gaining ground and where they might have plateaued.
Writing is an opportunity to take a clean piece of paper and create a personal masterpiece. Sitemap Personal Reflection Through exploring these various reading strategies I have learned that there is no right or wrong approach to teaching reading.
I skim over the table of contents and look through the endnotes and bibliography. A perfect example is the biography of William Tyndale I was reading last night. I have found that this is true of any topic.
Programs such as KHAN Academy and TeD Ed offer programs for students and teachers so that students can challenge themselves while also working independently and at their own pace. Reading has always been a struggle for me. I trust that the Spirit works in me as I read good books and that He works despite my imperfect memory. I read the back cover and the endorsements. I have found that this is true of any topic. If you were to read one page of a book per day, you would be able to read at least two of the average Christian Living books in a year. For me, writing allows me to express emotions, organize my personal thoughts, study information, and get my opinion and beliefs out in the open. It is amazing how many ten and fifteen minute periods there are in life that can be used for reading. I read with a pencil in hand I buy those clickable Bic pencils by the box and underline liberally usually using a Monergism.
